I haven't taken advantage of tags/labels, but I'm thinking I need to start. Especially since this blog is supposed to document the craziness which is Mabes, and I need a better way to organize it. So do I just make up labels and type it below? Then blogger sorts the rest? I need to be better about writing down the things Mabes says, so bear with me: there may be many "from the mouth of Mabes" posts.
I never told Mabes I was pregnant, we just told her (as posted in the video below) that there was a baby in my belly. I don't have anything against the word "pregnant" (I'm not a 1950s TV show), I just didn't want to explain what another word meant. I'm sure I use the word with friends or Dave around Mabes, but I was still surprised when one day she said "Pregnant means you have a baby in your belly." Yes, yes it does. "So you're pregnant!" You're right. "Happy pregnant day, mommy!" I didn't know it was a holiday, but given Mabes' penchant for special days, it should come as no surprise that since then, she has wished me a happy pregnant day every day. I think I should celebrate with cookies and chocolate milk (then again, I think that's one of the reasons Mabes was so big, so maybe not).
Last week, we were driving and Mabes had been quiet for a while--a rarity when she's not rockin' out to Backyardigans. All of a sudden, she asked, "Mommy, after you have the baby and you're in da hospital, will your tummy still be kind of big?" I paused for a moment, wondering if she was really as smart as I was about to give her credit for. "That's a great question, Mabes, what made you think of that?"
"Well, udder mommies at church, when dey have deir babies, deir tummies are still kind of big even do da babies aren't in da tummies anymore."
I'm just trying not to laugh at this point, "You're right, Mabes. After I have the baby, my tummy will still be kind of stretched out. A lot. It will still be pretty big. Those other mommies you're thinking about, are their tummies still big?"
She thought for a minute, "No."
"See, that's what will happen with me. My tummy will be big for a while, but then it will get smaller." I hope. I was pretty impressed with the transitive logic, and relieved that that's one less thing I'll have to explain. Now if only adults would understand that.

I can't wait to have many heart-to-heart talks with her in Orlando... but I think all the other people may be a bit of a distraction. I'll settle for just squeezing her every day.
that's better than when Ainsleigh visited me in the hospital after having Donovan and said, all coyly, "Oh Mommy! It looks you have ANOTHER baby in your belly!" Shut up.
She is a real thinker. She puts things together. Sooooo Fun!!!
