I grabbed a few more things to try, headed to the register, and the cashier said, "Your total comes to $33 even. And you know what that means!"
Me (with blank stare on my face): Uhhh...no....
I was sort of expecting her to say that it meant I was super cool, here's your balloon, and have a nice day. Weird, but I'd be fine with that.
Cashier: It means you get your choice of free chocolate or flowers!
Me: Really?
Cashier: Yep!
Me: No, I mean, REALLY? Free?
(It must be understood that the concept of free anything is pretty much the greatest thing ever to me.)
Cashier: Yes, feel free to take a minute, look through the flowers, go through all the chocolate above the freezers, and take your pick!
So in a move that I'm afraid will make Rachel disown me, I opted for the flowers. The reasoning is, I'll buy the chocolate, but flowers are a luxury I don't buy. And I still have TJ's chocolate covered raisins and M&Ms speckled eggs to last me quite a while. I opted for a potted plant, since it would last longer. And I can keep the bulbs. I love tulips, and I can't remember what the other one is called, but they smell really good!
So Happy Leap Day to me. Even if my child has napped all of 40 minutes this whole week (she's currently in her crib singing "Happy Birthday to Mabes!"), the flowers made my day. Yay, free stuff!

I believe the other flower is a hyacinth which is one of my favorites. They smell really good. I discovered them while at the byu! Congrates on 33...why the free item?
You are dead to me.
Heh, as I scrolled down and saw the picture of the flowers, I was like, "WHAT?" But I understand your reasoning.
Also, I laughed out loud for like 3 minutes straight at "Happy Birthday to Mabes!"
Hyacinth! That's it. I kept thinking "hydrangea," but I knew that wasn't right. My car smelled so good on the drive home! I guess they give you your choice of chocolate or flowers if your total comes to anything even, no change. Which means my next trips will have to be carefully calculated...
And Rachel, I realize I'm now the girl who turned down free chocolate. I was hoping the "I already buy that for myself" argument would be enough...but I realize that just sounds silly. But I came home and celebrated my free flowers with lots of speckled M&Ms!
And yeah, while Em's birthday is a good 5 months away, she talks about it all.the.time. I think because we've been buying and getting ready to ship Ainsleigh and Dono's birthday presents, so birthdays are on her mind...
