Not another liberal arts major!

Last week, Mabes decided she should publish a newspaper. I have no idea where this idea came from; we don't subscribe to a paper, though we sometimes pick up the Sunday edition. Even that has become rare, though. She asked how to spell "newspaper," I told her, and she produced this:

In case you can't tell, the cover stories (in picture form, of course, since they are worth a thousand words) are:

-Squirrels. We have one in the backyard we call Lloyd. He climbs the trees and suns himself on our deck. And the whiskers are intentionally drawn large, to let the reader know that squirrels do, in fact, have whiskers.

-Soccer. World cup fever has broken, but apparently Mabes is still thinking about it. The arrows show that the soccer player is running fast, and that protrusion pointing to the soccer ball is his knee. Dave and I both asked.

-Mabes playing Mario Brothers. Of course. She is obsessed, I tell you. On the way home from school yesterday, out of the blue she lamented, "Mommy, I always fink about Mario. I can't fink about anyfing else!" The first step is admitting you have a problem, right?

-Trains. It's a crazy curvy train because Mabes is a crazy girl.

She also cut up one of Dave's old resumes and taped bits of it to the paper, since newspapers have words. I didn't have the heart to tell her that printed news was a dying medium and that perhaps her time was better served working on a squirrel-and-Mario-news-related app.

I love this! I especially love that she says she can't think of anything but Mario. So funny :)

I agree with Laura, I want to subscribe to her paper. At least I smile at what she draws or writes. She is something else... and we love her
