...None of us are slow pokes, and we tell the best jokes...
We went to visit Dave's mom last weekend, which means 8 hours in the car and lots of kids' music. I generally dislike kids' music, but the exception is, of course, Backyardigans. I'm not ashamed to admit it--I love the Backyardigans. Each episode has a certain style of music (zydeco one day, western swing the next, tarantella the next) with funny lyrics. So while I'd be very embarrased if I were, say, rockin' out to Wonderpets (add that to my list of things that annoy me), I'm not going to hide the Backyardigans file on my iPod--but it's for Mabes, of course.
...Because you can't go fast if you go too slow...
So we spent a good chunk of the car trip listening to music and playing the alphabet game, which only reiterates something I've known for a while: we're huge nerds. And I'm okay with that. But now I've had Backyardigans stuck in my head all day, and I'm thinking it's a bad thing when you don't realize that you're singing "Go, Go, Go!" at Costco until your 3-year-old asks "Mommy, will you please stop that?"
Woops.
But we had a great weekend; Mabes was excited to spend time with Grandma Jackie and is still talking about the chocolate chip cake Grandma let her eat. We went to church with Grandma, and Mabes was perfectly happy to go to a new primary. As we were heading home, we asked Mabes how she liked primary. "It was good--dey sang da 'hewwo' song to me!"
"Oh, that sounds like fun! Your first time as a visitor--did you like it?" I asked.
"Yes! And den dey sang to me again for da BIRFDAY SONG!" she yelled, arms spread out for effect.
"What? Oh, you mean they sang it to the other kids whose birthdays are this month?" I asked hopefully.
"No, dey sang it to me! Dey towd us 'If your birfday is coming up, come up front and we sing to you.' And MY birfday is coming up, so I went up and dey sang to me!"
Her birthday is coming up...in 5 months.

Ha! I think she should do that every time you guys visit.
She is hilarious! I have to say...Backyardigans is a new since Bailyn was little. I can't wait to see what it is all about with Nathan!
Hahaha, when I read the title of your post I immediately starting singing, "Questing questing questing, never resting..." My kid is too young for me to know that, I know. But we DVR'd it when my niece was over and watched it only a trillion times.
She's going to be a lawyer.
Hey, they weren't specific, so she was totally ok to go up for the song! And what's wrong with wonderpets...whats gonna work...team work (this is the cartoon that is on while i am getting ready for church and the girls and watching tv, needless to say the song is stuck in my head most sundays!)
